How to Install Garage Floors

When you’re redesigning a garage, you have to consider the different components that go into it. From the cabinets to the organizers, there are many ways to get the garage of your dreams.

How to Install Garage FloorsBut, before you add the storage and extra accessories, you need to consider what type of flooring you want. Will this garage be used solely for storage? Will it be a gym or man cave? Or, will it be your way of showing off your impressive vehicle collection?

By deciding what the garage will be used for, you can pick out the right flooring for it. Then we can get started on the installation of your garage floors.

Prepping the Floors

Before we install new flooring, we need to attend to the current one in your garage. We’ll perform a mechanical abrasion process using commercial shot blasters and diamond grinders. This will clean the top surface and “open the pores” of the concrete. That way, our base coat will be able to penetrate deeply for great adhesion.

We’ll also take care of any cracks or pitting caused by rock salt in the concrete. With these best practices, we can restore your floor to a flat, level surface to easily install new ones.

Installation of Garage Floors

Once the floors are all prepped and ready, we’ll get started on installing a new set. If you opt for a basic solid-color garage floor coating, that’ll be a pigmented base coat layer followed by a pigmented top coat layer. The top coat will contain a high level of UV resistance, so that the new floors won’t amber or yellow, even with prolonged exposure to sunlight.

Installing Garage FloorsWe use FLEXCORE™ for the flooring, which is an exclusive coating product that’s quite advanced for residential garage floor application.

There are many advantages to having new floors with the FLEXCORE™ coating, such as it being:

  • Two times stronger than standard epoxy coatings
  • 30% stronger than polyaspartics
  • Able to penetrate 25% deeper than standard epoxy

Plus, it’s easy to clean and maintain, and is safe for everyone with little to no volatile organic compounds.

Which Garage Flooring Should You Get?

You could stop at the solid coating and select from colors like Forest Green, Twilight Blue, and Gun Powder Gray. But, why not add some excitement to your garage?

We have flake finishes that give off a cool vibe in colors like Harley, Red Graphite, and Blue Ice. Or, you could opt for a reflector metallic garage floor coating.

This eye-catching, one-of-a-kind look comes in 52 colors and is typically placed over a black base. If you want your garage to look like a car showroom, then you may want to go for this type of flooring.

There’s a 3-layer or 4-layer system that’s used for garage floor installation. The 3-layer system consists of a base, reflector, and wear coat. The 4-layer system, on the other hand, consists of a primer, then the base, reflector, and wear coat. No matter which system you choose, these floors will fully cure in 24 hours and will be four times stronger than standard epoxy systems.
